Tecmo announces third Deception title

   Tecmo recently announced a third game in its Kokumeikan series -- better known to English-speaking gamers as the Deception series. The third game, known as Soumatou ("Dim Devil Lamp") in Japan, features the same basic gameplay as its predecessors Deception and Kagero: You play as the villainous master of a dungeon and set various traps to outwit the heroes invading your domain.

   Soumatou features greatly improved graphics; the textures and polygon counts are markedly better than those of the previous Deception games. A wealth of new traps allows for over 2000 different trap combinations; dispatching invaders with said traps now also yields a permanent blood stain on the trap and walls. Soumatou will also carry on the Deception series' tradition of multiple endings.

   Tecmo is currently shooting for a December release for Soumatou in Japan. No U.S. release has been announced.
