Phantasy Star Online plot details
[09.26.99] » Teaser trailer reveals potential story information.
Sonic Team's Phantasy Star Online has been described as a "spinoff," as opposed to a main series title. What connections, if any, the game would have to the Phantasy Star universe and mythos was unknown. Now, intrepid Phantasy Star fans have analyzed frame-by-frame the recent teaser trailer. What they've discovered hints at much stronger ties to the Phantasy Star world than previous expected.
The most important revelation is the return of Dark Force. His name, "the Resurrection," and the Japanese characters for "resurrection" appear in the video. Other snippets of information include the phrase "Escape the E" (most likely the planet Earth), "Photon" (the ship that escapes the Earth). The Japanese characters for "light," "space," "prayer," "and "evil god" all also appear. Promotional materials for Phantasy Star IV referred to Dark Force as the "evil god," making his return all the more certain.
Finally, the English text "Gardian Star" (sic) and the Japanese characters for "Guardian Star" appear, leading to speculation on what precisely a "Guardian Star" might be. The leading hypothesis is a benevolent, man-made, planet-orbiting moon.
Very little else is known about Phantasy Star Online, but more details should be forthcoming. Thanks to the Profound Darkness and his website for the news tip.
