Phantasy Star Online to offer traditional RPG gameplay
[09.22.99] » Up to four players combine efforts on a single quest.
Ever since the latest Phantasy Star game was revealed to be an online venture, fans of the series were fearful their roots would be forgotten. Nightmares of Ultima Online-style gameplay and persistent worlds filled gamers' heads; after all, non-linear quests, thousands of "heroes," and a lack of narrative structure don't mesh well with the traditional Japanese RPG aesthetic. And while such gameplay has its place and can be enjoyable, it's just not "Phantasy Star." Fortunately, Sonic Team has revealed that Phantasy Star Online will feature a more traditional style of RPG quest for one to four players. Form a party with three friends, then travel the world. It's great to hear that the Phantasy Star license will be more than just a name.
Hopefully, more details about Phantasy Star Online's gameplay and its innovative online features will be forthcoming.
