Sony announces Legend of Dragoon
[09.01.99] » In development for three years, Sony prepares for the release of a fantasy-themed, 3D RPG monster.
According to videogames.com, Japan's Sony Computer Entertainment has made public plans to release a fantasy-themed RPG in December titled -- quite inventively -- Legend of Dragoon. While current details are sparse, the scope of the project sounds massive: over 100 development team members have been working on the project for three years, creating a world of polygon-based characters and detailed CG movies spread across 4 CDs. In comparison, over 100 employees spent a little under two years developing Square's Final Fantasy VIII, though, to be fair, the process was quickened by the experience gained during FF VII's development.
Materials from the game reportedly were on display at the SIGGRAPH '99 computer graphics tradeshow held a few weeks back, perhaps indicating that the visuals used in the game are near the forefront of the industry. Sony is expected to reveal further details from their soon-to-be-high-profile title shortly.
