Sony announces PlayStation 2 online adapter release information

[03.07.02] » Or, the announcement before the announcement.

Though Sony's press conference detailing its online strategy for the PlayStation 2 in North America won't occur until later in the day, the company did reveal the pricing and release information on the actual network adapter for the system this morning. The adapter, which has yet to be given an official name, will be compatible with both the 56k (v.90) and 10/100 ethernet formats, and will be released in August for $39.99. In addition to the hardware, the adapter will include a disc providing set-up instructions and documentation, as well as a handful of ISP selections for those who do not have one already.

The GIA will have more regarding the rest of Sony's strategies later today.
