Xenosaga to ship on one dual-layer DVD

   Though MonolithSoft's epic Xenogears' prequel was previously scheduled to be released on two normal DVDs, Namco today announced that the game will ship on one single dual layered DVD, with all content intact. Though the PlayStation 2 has always supported the dual layer format, which is often used for DVD movies, this marks the first time any game employed the technology.

   Namco stated that the switch ways made so that players could avoid the tedious, energy-draining process of having to get up and switch the disc once in thirty hours of play. The move to the new format is likely to carry a hefty added production cost and could help explain the game's equally hefty 7800 yen price tag. Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht is due out February 28 in Japan.
