Final Fantasy X Gaiden in the works?
[01.08.02] » Unlikely, but possible. (Final Fantasy X spoilers within.)
The extra epilogue scene on the new Otherside disc in Final Fantasy X International may turn out to be more important than was previously thought, if Square is hinting what it seems to be.
Some time ago, two commentators on Famitsu TV had the following exchange with a few key bits of information bleeped out:
"I'm looking forward to the sequel to <BEEP>. They say you'll get to see what happens after that moving last scene."
"What, you mean like <BEEP>?!"
"Yes, exactly like <BEEP>."
After this, the show revealed the following clues:
- Company "S"
- PS2
- Gaiden
- If expressed in numbers, you'd know immediately what it was
- Two letters of the alphabet
Furthermore, the "Eien no Nagi-setsu" extra epilogue on the FFX International disc ends with Yuna and company setting off for unexplored territories. A caption in the new Jump reads, "Off to a new adventure!" Even more mysteriously, the recently-updated FFX International webpage sports a gigantic caption: "Is this an epilogue... or a prologue?"
All this is mere circumstancial evidence, of course, as is the fact that Final Fantasy X performed slightly under expectations for Square and a game reusing the same engine and characters would be one way for the strained company to recoup some costs without the need to produce a new game from scratch. The clues so far are far from conclusive, and this may all turn out to be idle speculation, but it's something to think about all the same. (And for the record, while nothing may come of this, it's no joke or hoax--the GIA keeps its April Fools' jokes confined to April Fools' Day.)
