First Star Ocean 3 details

   Although it has long been known that tri-Ace was working on a third installment of its Star Ocean series for the PlayStation 2, the company has only now revealed the first real details on the sequel. Like many franchises moving from the original PlayStation to the PS2, Star Ocean 3 will make the jump to a fully 3D engine. In a series first, all the characters and maps will be in 3D and enemies will now be visible on the field map.

   A scant few story details were also mentioned. Two characters have been revealed so far: a boy named Fate and a young girl called Sophia. The game will take place on a near-future version of Earth. Furthermore, all previous titles in the series have taken place in the same universe, so it is highly likely that the third game will maintain some continuity with previous Star Ocean games.

   Star Ocean 3 has been tentatively slated for a March 2002 release; look for more information soon.
