Additional Final Fantasy X details

[07.03.01] » What's next? The complete script?

Square has continued its quest to reveal every last bit of Final Fantasy X before the game's July 17th Japanese release.

Magic Box reports that Rikku's weapon has been changed to an Al Bhed tribe gun. (In the Tokyo Game Show demo, she fought with a dagger.) The site also detailed the meaning of the mysterious "Overkill" designation seen in the TGS demo: If a character dispatches an enemy by inflicting damage far greater than the amount of HP the enemy had remaining, he or she will earn extra Ability Points.

Meanwhile, the first review of the Japanese release of the game has been published in -- of all places -- the Japanese version of Playboy. The review states that Final Fantasy X's story is "even more tragic than FF VII's." Playboy also reports that FF X is "80 hours long," though as this claim is coming from a non-gaming magazine that likely doesn't whip through titles as quickly as a gaming magazine would, this claim should taken with more than a few grains of salt. (Thanks to Nick Rox for this bit of news.)

A few new character details that may be potential spoilers have also been revealed. While not as revealing as the soundtrack track listing, these may reveal pieces of the game's story; scroll down and read at your own risk.

Magic Box has also reported that Auron lost the use of his right eye while serving as Braska's bodyguard, hence his always wearing glasses. (Careful observation indeed reveals a scar on Auron's face in his official render.)

Finally, Final Fantasy X's airship is indeed invented by Cid, as per series tradition. (Note, however, that the airship is not named the Hiku-Tei, as reported elsewhere -- "Hikutei" is simply "airship" in Japanese.) Square's official site for the game also reveals that Cid was a friend of Yuna's late father Braska - a rather strange friendship, since Cid's Al Bhed tribe has been at odds with the summoners.
