Game Arts partners with Enix, announces Grandia X

[06.04.01] » Enix invests in Game Arts, will publish Grandia II and Grandia X for PS2 in Japan.

Enix Japan announced today that the company has made a strategic investment in Game Arts, the developer of the Grandia and Lunar series. In exchange, Enix has secured the Japanese publishing rights for two upcoming Grandia games for PlayStation 2. Game Arts' previous titles were published by Entertainment Software Planning (ESP) in Japan.

One of the two Grandia titles, the PlayStation 2 port of Grandia II, was previously announced and will be arriving in Japan this winter. Ubi Soft will still be publishing the port in the U.S. The other is a new game with the working title Grandia X. Nothing is known about the game beyond its name and its projected release date of spring 2002, but the fact that it has not been immediately titled Grandia III may mean Game Arts has plans for something beyond a sequel.

The developers have stated previously that they would like to take the franchise online. Grandia X may be the hinted at online Grandia game or the X could simply be standing in for one of those fashionable subtitles that all the games are sporting this season.
