Yamauchi threatens to shelve GameCube launch
[04.18.01] » Nintendo CEO claims E3 2001 reception will decide console's fate.
Nintendo Co. Ltd's legendarily outspoken CEO is at it again. Hard as it may be to believe, Nintendo's CEO is really threatening to delay GameCube's release indefinitely unless it goes over well at E3 2001. At a Japanese press conference held on April 18th, Yamauchi commented that "if the GameCube is not received well at E3, our strategy will be compromised, and that will cause a serious blow to our plans. We may even have to consider pigeonholing the sale of GameCube."
Yamauchi's well-known distaste for complex next-generation consoles and desire to focus on software may have contributed to this decision. He also may have forgotten to take his medication this morning. It is unknown at this point if he will hold his breath until he turns blue.
