Final Fantasy XI to stay on PlayStation 2 and Windows
[04.16.01] » Details from Square's financial report.
Mainichi Interactive recently discussed Square's financial outlook, and in the process revealed a few points of interest to gamers. On the purely financial side, Square intends not to repeat the costly business of funding a movie--their next film will be made entirely with outside backers. They also revealed that they'll need about 495,000 PlayOnline users per year to break even on the service, a figure much lower than previously estimated.
In more visible gaming matters, Square discussed some features of the PlayOnline web browser, called PVN. Required for use in Final Fantasy XI, it will incorporate mail and chat features in addition to web browser. The article also quotes Sakaguchi as saying that FFXI will be available only on PlayStation 2 and Windows, though Tomoyuki Takechi hinted that future games in the series may go multi-platform.
