New PSO Ver. 2 details, game footage
[04.12.01] » Sega releases more information and the first
video of its upgrade to Phantasy Star Online.
Chinese gaming site HKDreamcast
has uncovered new details on Sega's expansion to Phantasy Star Online.
Beyond the new areas and modes covered in our preview,
the upgraded PSO Ver. 2 will feature a host of smaller additions to
the game.
- Grave markers, featuring the player's name, level and cause of
death, will now mark the spot when a player dies on Ragol.
- More time-based features will be added such as unique NPC dialogue
and different balls in the soccer mini-game.
- Players will be able to spend their extra mesetas on new outfits
and hairstyles in a PSO "Dressing Room."
- A new challenge mode will be added which restricts players to
specific equipment and requires they complete the level without
returning to town.
In addition, Segamecast
has obtained a short clip of PSO Ver. 2 in motion. Though brief, the
promotional video offers
a look at the new locals and modes of the expansion, as well as a
glimpse of the retooled dragon boss.
PSO Ver. 2 is on track for a May 17 release in
Japan. Sega of America hasn't set a firm date for the upgrade, but
its US release should follow soon after.
