Initial U.S. Game Boy Advance shipment halved

[03.29.01] » Just 500,000 consoles will be available on June 11, but the rest will arrive by the end of June.

Nintendo confirmed that its initial shipment of Game Boy Advance consoles to the United States has been halved. Only 500,000 of the expected one million units will ship to the U.S. on June 11; the move comes as a part of an effort to increase shipments of the console to non-U.S. territories. However, the remaining 500,000 consoles will still arrive in the United States by the end of June.

"For strategic purposes, Nintendo will initially ship 500,000 Game Boy Advance units to the US marketplace for the June 11 launch," said Nintendo PR representative Julia Roether. "We will then work closely with retailers to tactically replenish product where it is most needed in order to best meet consumer demand. Nintendo will supply US retailers with more than 1 million units of Game Boy Advance by the end of June."
