Broken Sword 3: The Sleeping Dragon announced

[03.28.01] » Adventure game series to hit PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC in 2002.

Didn't play either of the previous Broken Sword games? You're not alone; despite overwhelmingly positive reviews, both adventure games floundered at the sales counter. Developer Revolution Software is no doubt hoping for greater popular success with the third installment of their flagship series, due out in 2002 for PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC.

Though it will still be an adventure game, The Sleeping Dragon will have a radically different interface from its point-and-click predecessors. Revolution's Charles Cecil says, "We've been experimenting with the next generation development systems and now have a clear vision, both technically and creatively, as to how to bring the series bang up to date, with a new look and new style of play."

Details about this new style of play have yet to be revealed, but the descriptions from Revolution's press release sound engaging. The game is being described as a "dark crime thriller" with "stealth, combat and puzzle solving" elements. The plot, while currently under wraps, promises to be complex and engaging, with the same focus on "present-day myths" as the series' other two titles, which involved globe-spanning conspiracies such as the Knights Templar. Series characters George Stobbart and Nico are confirmed to be returning.

Further information about Broken Sword 3: The Sleeping Dragon will be released in April.
