Dance Dance Revolution released...

[03.22.01] » ...but not without some serious fine print.

Two full years after first coming to the PlayStation in Japan, Dance Dance Revolution has been released in the U.S. -- somewhat.

Gameplay in DDR revolves around dancing on a pad with four arrows in time with the on-screen action, but the pad won't be available until April 10, with a game/pad bundle scheduled to appear on May 5. The current game-only release has an MSRP of $29.99.

Konami refers to the U.S. version as a "collector's edition" and has made it available only through certain retailers:

  • Airtight Garage at Metreon-A Sony Entertainment Center
  • PlayStation store at Metreon-A Sony Entertainment Center
  • Fry's Electronics
  • Game Quest
  • Games 4 Less
  • Game Keeper/Wizard
  • Game Force
  • Game Dude
  • Sony Outlet centers
  • Sony Style stores
  • Video Warehouse
  • Virgin Megastore
    Online:
  • EB World Online: www.ebworld.com
  • PlayStation Online: www.playstation.com
  • CD Universe Online: www.cduniverse.com

On a more positive note, Konami has hinted that promising sales might lead to versions of the game that are "specific to North America." Gamers everywhere should cross their fingers until they can start dancing.
