Game Boy Advance launch details, line-up announced

[03.07.01] » Nintendo officially announces the GBA launch; ChuChu Rocket among 15 games available on June 11.

Nintendo of America has announced the full line-up and price range for the launch of the Game Boy Advance this June 11. The system will retail for $99.95, while individual software titles will cost between $29.95 and $39.95 each, a notably lower price than many games in the Japanese market. The 4-player link cable will be sold separately, but it bears mentioning again that only one cart is required for 4-player action.

"There has never been a portable game system like Game Boy Advance, and never has a game system launched into such a booming market," says Peter Main, executive vice president, sales and marketing, Nintendo of America Inc. "Our existing portable system, Game Boy Color, remains the fastest-selling video game platform in America, achieving all-time sales records even 11 years after introduction. Game Boy Advance will set brand new records."

Only two first-party titles will be available at launch, but 13 third-party games will round out the roster, including Sega's ChuChu Rocket. More than 60 GBA titles are expected to ship by Christmas. According to Nintendo, "virtually all" games sold for previous Game Boy systems will be compatible with the GBA, but no details were given regarding games with possible compatibility problems.
