Dinosaur Planet moves to GameCube
[02.28.01] » Rare's action-adventure to be reborn as a GameCube
launch title; will Eternal Darkness follow?
After a promising debut
at last year's E3, Rare's Zelda-esque adventure Dinosaur Planet was
left to linger on Nintendo's N64 release list, finally coming to rest
at the bottom as a game with no date at all. Rumors quickly spread
that the title was being retooled for GameCube, but both Rare and
Nintendo have been silent on the matter, until now.
Citing "sources close to Rare," IGNCube
reports that Dinosaur
Planet has definitely been canceled for N64, and will reappear as
a fall launch title for GameCube in North America. The team behind
the game purportedly fought hard to keep it on its initial platform,
but concerns for flagging N64 sales and the need for strong GameCube
launch software prevailed.
The game's move lends believability to the accompanying
rumor that Silicon Knight's horror adventure Eternal Darkness would
be jumping to GameCube, as well. The title has completely disappeared
from the N64 release list in recent months, hinting that its arrival
on Nintendo's next system is a strong possibility.
