Nintendo confirms GameCube Zelda development
[02.23.01] » Former technology demo now a game.
In a recent teleconference, Zelda series creator Shigeru Miyamoto and current director Mitsihiro Takano revealed that a Zelda game is already in the works for Nintendo's forthcoming GameCube system. Miyamoto said that he could not reveal any details on the project until May 2001, implying that Zelda will make a showing at that month's Electronic Entertainment Expo.
The GameCube Zelda project has its roots in the original tech demo seen at SpaceWorld, in which Link dueled with Ganondorf. Miyamoto explained that most of the graphics for the new Zelda have already been completed, and that "now we are working on the different camera angles for the fighting scenes."
Miyamoto also stated that the team is investigating ways to make use of the Game Boy Advance's connection to the GameCube. "It is going to be a very easy system to connect GameCube and Game Boy Advance -- with Zelda or any other game. For example, it could be used to play mini-games. There are many different opportunities that we are looking at."
