Sega and Nintendo joint RPG confirmed

[02.14.01] » Yet another rumor becomes reality as Sega of America admits to an RPG in co-development with Nintendo.

What began as a fantastic rumor took a step towards reality today with confirmation from Sega of an RPG title currently being developed with Nintendo. Charles Bellfield, vice president of marketing and corporate communications for Sega of America, admitted to the project's existence in a recent interview with industry magazine GameWeek.

GameWeek: Charles, can you confirm or deny the existence of this so-called "top-secret RPG" being worked on by Sega and Nintendo?

Bellfield: (long pause) I'm trying to recall… Tetsu Kayama
[Sega of Japan strategy consultant] talked about a number of things last week and I would normally refer back to what he said, but let's put it this way: whatever he said, the answer is "yes."

Whether the game at all matches the scope of the original rumor is unknown, as the project was originally said to combine characters and worlds from both companies' best known franchises and was too unrealistic to be reported as anything but speculation at the time.

More details are possible at E3, but in the meantime, check out the full interview at GameWeek.
