Is the Xbox Dreamcast compatible?
[01.25.00] » Sources close to Microsoft say "Yes".
Gamers.com has reported that anonymous sources close to Microsoft stated that the company will be making a major announcement at this year's Spring Tokyo Game Show (March 30-April 1). During his opening day speech about the Xbox, Bill Gates will announce that the Xbox will include a Dreamcast chipset. And while it's just a rumor, there is considerable evidence to back it up.
The strongest evidence in support of the rumor is Sega's recent announcement concerning their plans to incorporate the Dreamcast technology into future electronic devices. While production of Dreamcast units is slowing down, game production is in full swing, with over 100 titles currently in the works. If the Xbox can play Dreamcast games, Microsoft could use this feature as a counter to the backwards compatibility of the PlayStation 2.
