PSO to not be broadband compatible

[01.15.01] » Sega's online RPG to use built-in modem exclusively, but does incompatible mean unusable?

After days of conflicting reports regarding Phantasy Star Online and the Dreamcast's broadband adapter, Sega confirmed today that the game will in fact not be compatible the newly released perihperal. Unconfirmed reports have stated that broadband play will still be possible without official support, meaning stubborn gamers may still be able to use incompabtible adapters at the risk of bugs.

"PSO will not be broadband compatible since it was in development prior to the adapter," said a Sega representative, "however, we expect it to deliver the same experience as if it were." Any disappointment among gamers should be tempered by reports that the game has been a relatively lag-free experience on the narrowband Japanese DC network. Phantasy Star Online is scheduled to ship later this month.
