More details on Tsugunai

[12.12.00] » Sony's new PlayStation 2 RPG to feature Yasunori Mitsuda soundtrack.

Sony recently announced a new internally developed RPG for the PlayStation 2. Tsugunai, which roughly translates to "penance," tells the tale of a knight sent by his lord to search for a legendary gem. Luckily, this most chichéd of plots turns a bit more interesting once the hero recovers the treasure. As punishment for his theft, an angry god slays him and sends his spirit on a quest to help those in need.

As a ghost, the knight will be drawn to those in distress and can temporarily posses their bodies. Players will jump from person to person throughout the game, moving on when a problem has been resolved.

Though currently scheduled for February 22 of next year, few details have been released beyond these simple plot points. What is known is that the soundtrack will be composed by none other than Yasunori Mitsuda, well-known for his excellent work on Xenogears and more recently Chrono Cross. Sony has released a trailer, available at the game's Japanese webpage, which gives a brief sample Mitsuda's trademark Celtic stylings and a glimpse at the gameplay.

Look for a full preview of Tsugunai from the GIA as more details emerge.
