Final Fantasy Anthology PS2 compatiblity issues

[12.05.00] » Square's classics make the leap to a third platform which a few small hitches.

SCEA has released a preliminary list of the PlayStation titles which encounter problems when running on the PlayStation 2. Though most GIA readers wont be too disappointed to learn they can't play Judge Dredd or Monkey Hero on Sony's new hardware, one high-profile title has made the list: Final Fantasy Anthology.

Luckily, according to reader reports, the problems appear to be minor. Final Fantasy VI is not affected at all, and the only widespread problems occur when trying to save in Final Fantasy V. The save screen or load screen may become a jumble, and while the controls still work, you'll have to back out and try again or be familiar enough with the commands to save without visual cues. Reports have been mixed about any benefits derived from the PS2's faster loading option, but it is good for FF fans to know the games can at least be played with relatively little headache.

Here's the full list of titles with confirmed compatibility problems:

  • Arcade Party Pak - Midway
  • Arcade Greatest Hits/Atari 2 - Midway
  • Fighter Maker - Agetec
  • Final Fantasy Anthology - Square EA
  • Judge Dredd - Activision
  • Monkey Hero - Take 2
  • Mortal Kombat Trilogy - Midway
  • Tomba! - SCEA
  • International Track and Field - Konami
