Famed game producer Hideo Kojima has recently begun to shed more light on the gameplay details of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. In both a recent interview and an update to Konami's own Metal Gear Solid 2 Bulletin Board System, Kojima gave examples of how much detail gamers can expect from the gameplay in Metal Gear Solid 2. Enemy A.I. won't leave sloppy gamers much room to breath; Genome Soldiers will have an increased ability to 'track' Snake. Not only can they follow the path of bullets that have ricochet from their original target, but if Snake leaves a trail of destruction behind (I.E. broken glass bottles), soldiers may be able to track him down. The first-person mode will also play a significant role, as Kojima has stated plans to make background objects more interactive. Snake may be able to shoot a pipe and use the steam to his advantage, or carefully aim and knock away an opposing solider's gun and radio, making them an easy target.
While plot details are still being closely guarded, Kojima was able to disclose the basic theme behind Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. The original Metal Gear Solid was kept a basic theme of genetics, and the uncontrolable factors in the lives of the characters. Kojima is aiming for Metal Gear Solid 2 to round out the ideas seen in the first game, and hoping that after playing the sequel, gamers will "get the whole picture." Metal Gear Solid 2 will focus on the sides of life which nothing along the lines of genetics can control, including the way characters perceive life and ideology.
