New Onimusha gameplay details

[11.28.00] » Capcom reveals how Onimusha's hero will suck.

Capcom has updated the Japanese homepage of their upcoming demon-slashing adventure Onimusha with new gameplay details. The Demon Gauntlet that hero, Samanosuke, wears not only will grant him additional power and strength, but also the ability to absorb souls. Similar to Soul Reaver, whenever one of the game's demonic enemies is defeated, it will give up the ghost in the form of a floating orb. The size of the soul depends on the strength of the enemy and bosses may give off multiple souls over the course of a battle. By pressing the X button, Samanosuke can initiate the gauntlet's soul sucking power to gain new strength from his defeated foes.

Enemy souls come in three types. Blue will recover the hero's magic power, yellow will recover physical strength, and red will increase the power of the gauntlet itself. A combo bonus can be gained by absorbing souls in rapid succession, making it possible to quickly "level up" the gauntlet for more powerful attacks. However, Samanosuke is left defenseless while attempting to absorb the spirits.

Onimusha is currently slated for January 25th in Japan, with an American release to follow soon after. Meanwhile, check out 8 new screens of the soul sucking ability in action.
