Square aims big for FF X sales

[11.27.00] » Square's president sets a projection for the company's first PlayStation 2 RPG.

In today's Nikkei Sangyo newspaper, Square president Takashi Suzuki commented on Final Fantasy X's possible sales. He suggested that the game could sell up to 2.9 million copies in Japan, though hastened to add that he wasn't "completely sure if FFX will achive 2.9 million." While such a sales goal would require that nearly every other PlayStation 2 owner purchase FF X, it isn't unachievable -- FF VII sold three million copies at a time when only five million PlayStations had been sold.

Final Fantasy X is due out March 2001 in Japan, with a North American release to follow later in the year.
