With Final Fantasy IX's North American release a mere two weeks away, Square has kicked off an aggressive advertising campaign for the much-anticipated RPG. The company has shipped FF IX character standees to 244 movie theaters across the United States and will also be placing character artwork on popcorn boxes.

Telvision advertising for the title will premiere November 13 and run for five weeks on Comedy Central, MTV, ESPN, ESPN2, FOX, E!, UPN, as well as during WWF broadcasts on TNN. Expect magazine advertisements and trivia-themed trailers in 1,941 theaters as well.

But there will be more than just a game to promote; Square is also rolling out an extensive line of Final Fantasy IX merchandise, including key chains, wall calendars, stickers, shirts, caps, and even magnets. The company has also struck a deal with Palisades Marketing to produce FF IX lunch boxes and character action figures.
