THQ announces Tetris titles for next-gen systems

[10.15.00] » Versions for PlayStation 2, Game Boy Advance, and more are scheduled for Christmas 2001.

Publisher THQ announced Friday that it has signed a licensing agreement with Tetris developer Blue Planet Software to release the ubiquitous puzzler on a variety of next-gen platforms through to 2004. Initial versions for the PlayStation 2, Game Boy Advance, PC and unspecified "other next-generation systems" are scheduled for release sometime prior to Christmas of 2001. While THQ did not comment on what changes, if any, will be made to the classic puzzle concept, the company did acknowledge online connectivity is in the works, and Blue Planet Software made mention of "[taking] Tetris to new, fast and furious 3D extremes."

THQ also had no comment on what Tetris blocks have been doing in their free time as of late.
