Bandai announces Color WonderSwan
[08.29.00] » Square announces Final Fantasy for Color WonderSwan.
Despite technical inferiority to the Game Boy Color and Neo Geo Pocket Color, Bandai's Wonderswan has found great success in the Japanese market due to two factors: an extremely low price (4800 yen, or about $45 USD), and powerful licenses. Gundam, Evangelion, and Square will take a system far.
Bandai's Color WonderSwan looks to use the same "cheap and licensed" strategy as its predecessor. The system will go on sale this December for 7000 yen, or about $65 USD. The hardware has nothing on gameboy advance: the screen is 2.9 inches, and the graphics chip can display 241 simultaneous colors. The system is also backwards compatible with Wonderswan black-and-white titles. One of the first announced games is Square's Final Fantasy, a port of the NES classic that started it all. Final Fantasy II and III are also rumored to be Wonderswan Color-bound.
