Dragon Quest VII breaks 2 million sales

[08.29.00] » Purchasing this game may be hazardous to your health.

Even a slumping Japanese economy has time for Dragon Quest VII, as the initial sales reports show: despite the hefty 7800-yen price tag, all 1.9 million of the initial copies sold out in the first weekend, and this week will see another 850,000 shipped to retailers. If the second shipment sells as well as the first, DQVII will beat out the recent sales mark of Final Fantasy IX by a considerable amount.

The game is so popular that even the lower elements are desperate for a copy: two separate incidents have been reported of theft with assault so far. One case involved two young men on motorcycles attacking a young boy who had just purchased the game; the two sped off after relieving the boy of his copy. Those planning to buy the game in the near future are advised to upgrade to Full Plate armor.
