Miyamoto interview translation
[08.28.00] » The GameCube and GBA from a developer's perspective.
Yet another interview with Shigeru Miyamoto and an unnamed PR rep has popped up, courtesy of Video Senki. The lengthy interview answers several questions some have had regarding the Game Boy Advance, the GameCube, and the competition.
The GameCube, he says, is targeted to the whole family--which, he's quick to include, means the parents as well. "The design is such that adults wouldn't have any problem with it, either," said Miyamoto. As far as continuing support for the Game Boy Color and Nintendo 64, Miyamoto said the two systems would gradually be phased out. "Miyamoto ... definitely won't be saying "OK, the Gamecube's out. Let's go to something N64 now," commented the PR rep.
Miyamoto also mentioned that the leap in power from the N64 to the GameCube was more like that of the step from NES to SNES than the jump from SNES to N64. When questioned specifically about the GameCube's processing speed, he wouldn't commit to specific numbers of polygons at once but instead pushed the figure, "128 Marios." "Beyond that, if I say too much then Xbox might start changing their strategies and then I'd be in trouble," he laughed.
For much more direct from Miyamoto, be sure to check out the interview.
