Square considers joining NASDAQ

[08.28.00] » Financial woes prompt a new source of capital.

Making the Final Fantasy Movie has been harder on Square than they anticipated: the budget has ballooned from $70 million to at least $115 million, and some reports put the figure at closer to $200 million. To help pay for all this, they're looking into raising money directly from the public in both Japan and America. In Japan, they'll issue bonds guaranteed against the profits of the film, and in America, they're looking into listing Square USA on the NASDAQ stock exchange. Hopefully, the extra measures will be enough to assuage Hironobu Sakaguchi's fears that the movie will "impact the Japanese economy."
