Sega tries their hand at survival horror

[08.16.00] » Type-X Spiral Nightmare: will it be more than just a strange name?

Sega announced recently that they (like so many other companies these days) were working on a survival horror title. Titled Type-X Spiral Nightmare, the game will take on an alien-infested spaceship in the year 2078. Players get to assume the role of one of three space colonists, inventively named Johann Goodman, Jessica Streep, and Rod Stare, and will have to fight your way through the creatures that have invaded the ship. Sega has apparently thrown out any attempt at a story, and has made the game simply about escaping the ship alive.

While no set details about gameplay or systems have been revealed, the names of the game's systems have been, and they should prove entertaining enough for most gamers. Type-X features the generically named Interactive Battle System, as well as the slightly offbeat-sounding Emotional Communication System. Sega one-ups the requisite goofy system names by announcing a new goofy genre: Emotional Horror Adventure.

Those wanting to experience Emotional Horror Adventure will have to wait, though. Type-X is only 30% complete, and no release date has been announced. In the meantime, you can get your fix in the six screenshots below.
