Namco reveals Seven
[08.16.00] » Not based on the 1995 movie.
Ever-supportive of Sony's new system, Namco uncovered their first PlayStation 2 RPG today. Roughtly translated as Seven: Moralus's Cavalry Troop, the game will feature a rarity in PS2 games: hand-drawn 2D graphics in a fixed perspective. This surprisingly simplistic style can be seen below in the first released screenshots of the game.
While few details have been released, Seven's storyline does not seem to be particularly original. Just as in many games before it, the main character in Seven begins as a lowly cavalry member who will rise to become one of the seven chosen heroes (with one of the seven sacred weapons) and will defeat the evil that infests the land. During the course of his journey he must seek out the other six heroes (each with their own trademarked sacred weapon) so that they can all fight against evil in the new Rotational Battle System. Like the story itself, the Rotational Battle System is a repackaging of earlier systems; characters line up in three rows in battle (attack, support, and healing/magic), each with its own advantages and disadvantages.
The only other released detail is that the game will be released on DVD-ROM, not CD-ROM. Namco has certainly left plenty of room for improvement on this stereotypical-sounding premise. No release date has been announced, so they have plenty of time to turn the game into something more original.
