Grandia II sells 100,000 in first week

Game Arts' next-generation Dreamcast RPG, Grandia II, recently debuted on the Japanese charts with slightly over 100,000 copies sold. Is this good news or bad news? While it may seem low compared to multi-million sellers like Final Fantasy, most games in Japan don't sell nearly as many copies. The Japanese market and Dreamcast market in particular have been in a slump. Even A-list titles like Jet Set Radio have failed to pass the 50,000 mark, and Final Fantasy IX is on track to sell fewer than 3,000,000 copies (the least of any PlayStation Final Fantasy). Taken in this light, Grandia II's first-week sales are admirable.
