Irrational Games talks about The Lost

[08.16.00] » The devil is in the details.

Irrational Games, makers of System Shock 2, recently spoke with FGNOnline about their forthcoming PS2 title The Lost. This survival horror title features multiple protagonists and fully realized game worlds based on the Inferno portion of Dante Aligheri's Divine Comedy. The game has yet to be publically displayed, so creator Ken Levine's comments about the title's progress were a bit surprising. "The game is coming along and we’re about to have ready our first screenshots," said Levine. "We’re up to the point where the game is starting to have some real playability."

Levine also spoke about how the title's difficulty compares with System Shock 2. Irrational Games feels that their previous game dropped players too quickly into the thick of things; to that end, they aim to gradually introduce the player to the world of The Lost. The main character, Amanda, will have a variety of abilities that are introduced one-by-one. "As the character acquires more abilities, the game will naturally become more complex and interesting," explains Levine. "But we’re burning the midnight oil to make sure the game never gets ahead of the gamer."

The Lost will be published by Crave Entertainment for the PS2 in 4th quarter 2001.
