Square to enter into soundtrack publishing alliance

[07.07.00] » Final Fantasy IX, Parasite Eve 2 soundtracks to see U.S. release under new agreement with TokyoPOP and Mixx Entertainment.

For nearly five years since the 1995 publishing of the Secret of Evermore soundtrack, Square left U.S. gamers with little choice but to import if they wished to own the works of Uemtasu or Mitsuda. That first changed with the reopening of Square's online store and the soundtrack to Final Fantasy VIII, and now with an agreement between Square and TokyoPOP/Mixx Entertainment to publish the soundtracks to Final Fantasy IX and Parasite Eve 2.

Dubbed "TokyoPOP's new line of soundtracks" and presented with the slogan of "Fall 2000 - A New World of Music," these releases seem to signal a continued commitment on Square's part to bring merchandise to the states. The Parasite Eve 2 Original Soundtrack is currently scheduled for a September release, while "FFIX: Music From The Final Fantasy IX Video Game" is set to be available this November. It is unknown whether this name signals a different track selection for the U.S. or simply reflects the edits made in the 4-CD Japanese release. Expect further details regarding pricing and release date soon. Thanks to Mr. Edison for the tip.
