First Suikogaiden information revealed

[05.15.00] » The Suikoden series' first side-story turns out to be all story. Screenshots included.

Shortly after confirming the existence of Suikogaiden Volume 1, official story and gameplay details have already hit the 'net. Given the word "gaiden" in the title, which means "side story", it should come as no surprise that Suikogaiden Volume 1 takes place in the same world as the first two Suikodens. More speciffically, Suikogaiden will take place during the time of Suikoden II. Playing the role of the hero is Nash, a swordsman from the kingdom of Harmonia. Nash's journeys will eventually lead him to battlefield of the war between the City-State Jowsnton and the kingdom of Highland. Viewing the battle with outsiders eyes, Nash will run across many familiar faces. In the screens provided below, popular characters Pilika and Jowy are seen , as well as General Rowd.

The new gameplay, however, may leave a bit to be desired for some gamers. Along with the story details, Konami also announced that Suikogaiden Volume 1 is a text adventure. The story-heavy title will be presented via anime scenes which are likely by the same artist responsible for Suikoden II's character artwork (the style is identical).

No announcements regarding an American release date have been given yet, although Konami will surely view it as a risk to bring Suikogaiden Volume 1 stateside.
