Final Fantasy IX card game details
[05.30.00] » Double Destiny? Quadruple Quandary? Square's latest minigame is sure to be a time-killer.
The latest Electronic Gaming Monthly has play details on the card game that permeates Final Fantasy IX's world. Players alternate placing five cards on a square board (some spaces are randomly blocked, making them off-limits.) As in Final Fantasy VIII's Triple Triad, each card has an icon and strength statistics. A new addition is a varying number of arrows that line each card's
edges; generally speaking, more powerful cards have more arrows. You lay your
card so one of its arrows points to an opponent's card. If the enemy card
doesn't have an arrow pointing back, you gain control of his card. If the card does
have an arrow, the two cards "battle" and the one with the higher statistics is the winner. Of course, the side with more cards its color at the end wins. As with Triple Triad, nearly every NPC in the game is a fan of this card game.
