Portable Playstation revealed

[05.15.00] » After months of speculation, Sony's portable PlayStation turns out not to be very portable after all.

Rumors of a portable Sony PlaySstation have been rampant on the 'net for quite some time now. However, the most frequently used argument against the rumor was that a portable PlayStation's small screen size and akward control setup would surely inhibit the system from becoming possible. Now, according to MCV, sources inside Sony have confirmed that the portable PlayStation is very real indeed, and that there's a simple solution to the small screen issues -- the portable PlayStation won't have a screen at all.

The new PlayStation unit will have no self-display abilities. You'll still have to hook the system to a TV or other video display unit of your choice. While there would be a few people who would benefit from this (a laptop with video-in abilities and a portable PlayStation attached to it would be an envious set up), the decision to not include a visual display will likely alienate many gamers looking forward to a portable PSX. The system itself will definitely be easy to carry along, as its planned to be approximately one-fourth the size of the current Sony PlayStation. Although no official word has been given by Sony itself, insiders claim that the new PlayStation will be ready for release this fall for a suggested retail price of $99. However, with an estimated release that soon, you can look for the official word from Sony before long.
