E3: Rhapsody impressions
[05.12.00] » The jpop of videogames--and we mean that in a good way.
If you've seen the movies and heard the songs, you probably have the wrong idea about Rhapsody. In half an hour of hands-on playtime--shock!--not a single character burst randomly into song.
The best description of the game is actually something along the lines of a cuter, less morose, simplified Final Fantasy Tactics. The dialogue was sharp and amusing, while the character art translated exceptionally well to the in-game sprites and portraits. The voices are cute but not annoyingly so, but the non-vocal music is, ironically for "A Musical Adventure," quite forgettable. Still, if you've harbored misgivings prior to now due to the sugar-sweet music and movies, it may be time to rethink your view.
