E3: Parasite Eve 2 impressions

[05.12.00] » New and innovative ways to turn your stomach.

We've all seen the improved CG footage, and Aya's improved bustline, but what about the game itself? The answer is, from what we could tell, "not quite as good as the original"--but good in its own right.

The battle system is now in realtime, allowing you to fire off as many shots as you want. However, shots fired before a certain timer expires seem to be weaker. Since time no longer freezes for you to make a decision, a handy feature has been added to quickly select from different targets while firing, ensuring that no enemy can get too close.

Elswhere, things are mixed. The graphics are nice, and the addition of FMV to the backgrounds in places is a nice touch, but the start of the game until Aya actually infiltrates the tower roof is slightly dull. Things pick up though, and the final title should be worthwhile for any survival horror fan.
