E3: Phantasy Star Online delayed
[05.11.00] » The first networked console-based RPG gets pushed back to winter.
At first blush, Sega's plans for a worldwide Phantasy Star Online summer release seemed too good to be true -- and in the end it was. Today at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, Sega announced they would publish Phantasy Star Online for the Dreamcast and that it would be available in North America sometime in Winter 2000. Whether or not the Japanese and European versions of the game will be delayed remains to be seen, as Sega remained quiet in that regard.
"Sega's main focus for this year is online gaming via Sega Dreamcast," said Charles Bellfield, director of communications, Sega of America. "By combining this key Sega franchise that gamers know and love with enhanced online gameplay, 'Phantasy Star Online' is definitely going to be one of the best online titles for Sega Dreamcast."
