Silicon Knights becomes Nintendo exclusive
[05.05.00] » Makers of the original Legacy of Kain and forthcoming Eternal Darkness to become Nintendo "second-party" developer... but what about Too Human?
As E3 quickly approaches, Nintendo solidified its in-house strategy today by making a "strategic equity investment" in Silicon Knights, developers of the first-generation PSX classic Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain. This agreement effectively changes Silicon Knights into a "second-party" developer whose games are exclusive to Nintendo's consoles, similar to Rare or Left Field Studios (developers of many Nintendo sports titles). The first title to come of this new relationship will be Eternal Darkness, an extremely moody 3D adventure game that puts the player in control of over a dozen characters and takes place over multiple periods of time. The game is prepared to bask in the spotlight at Nintendo's booth at next week's E3, a grand step up from a quiet appearance there last year. Look to the GIA to provide coverage of this promising title soon.
So what does this major change mean for Too Human, Silicon Knights' ambitious PSX project? The game, which has been in development for multiple years, has production values and FMV sequences that make it an unlikely candidate for an N64 port - catch up on the game with the GIA's Silicon Knights interview. When asked about Too Human, SK founder Denis Dyack told the GIA that while he couldn't comment on Too Human, all projects after Eternal Darkness will indeed be for Nintendo's upcoming Dolphin, and that "fans won't be disappointed" by the results of this new partnership with Nintendo. Expect more on Eternal Darkness and this new gaming alliance from the E3 show floor.
