Final Fantasy IX character silhouettes[04.05.00] » See the five unannounced Final Fantasy IX characters in outline form. As Final Fantasy devotees are probably well aware, FF IX is scheduled to include eight main playable characters. Three of them -- Zidane, VIVI, and Steiner -- are already officially announced; now it's the other characters' turn to step towards the limelight. A recently-released set of silhouettes of the remaining five party members (see below) has revealed the first details concerning the characters' appearances. The first character in the line-up appears to be a female magic-user armed with a staff. It's likely that this character is the girl seen alongside heroes Zidane and VIVI in the Final Fantasy IX Coke commercial. None of the other silhouettes seem to fit the Coke heroine's appearance at all -- though it's possible she's just an NPC and not a playable character, which would make this silhouette an entirely different person. Next up is a brand new character who seems to be a wielding a huge fork. Coupled with the shape of the character's headwear, this design suggests that the character may be based around on some sort of "chef" theme. The third character should be more familiar to those following the GIA's FF IX coverage. His pointed helmet, cape, and pike-like weapon are a mirror image of those of the rat character seen in the original design documents. The bottom row plays host to two unknown characters. One is a fighter-type character equipped with massive claws. Speculation suggests that this character might not be entirely human -- Square has stated that a number of non-human characters will appear in the game, and this character's huge claws and unusually-shaped head hint that he might be one of them. Lastly, the fifth character seems to be some of witch; she's carrying what is almost certainly a broomstick. But this witch isn't quite ready to compress time yet -- her diminuitive form suggest that she's either a child or some type of demi-human creature like a fairy. Screenshots of FF IX have shown a character named "Garnet" in battle; out of the five characters, the name seems to fit the last character the best. However, it's premature to begin labeling any of the images with any concrete character information. Final Fantasy fans can, however, keep their fingers crossed that Square will fill in the silhouettes soon.
