Shen Mue, Space Channel 5 localization updates

[03.15.00] » Both Sega titles are almost fully translated.

In the aftermath of the Game Developers' Conference, videogames.com and IGNDC had the chance to speak with some of Sega's top designers, including Tetsuya Mizuguchi (of Space Channel 5 fame) and Yu Suzuki. The two producers dropped some hints regarding the English translations of their respective projects.

Space Channel 5, currently scheduled for a June release in North America, has had "most" of its voice work completed. Fans of the quirky Japanese original will be happy to know that all of the music, as well as Michael Jackson's cameo appearance, will be preserved in the North American release. The North American release will feature a special hologram cover that causes the Ulala and the Moroliens to "dance" as the cover is tilted back and forth.

Yu Suzuki's Shen Mue is also nearly well on its way to being fully localized, with the text translation completed and voice acting work in progress. As previously reported, the dialogue will be dubbed, with subtitles used to explain the Japanese writing seen in the game environment. (English subtitles for the dialogue are also available.) Some signs will also be simply redrawn with English text.

The full text of the interviews can be found on videogames.com and IGNDC.
