First-person mode confirmed for inclusion in Code Veronica

[02.03.00] » A first-person mode is indeed available in the latest Resident Evil title. (Possible spoilers included.)

For several months, rumors have been flying back and forth regarding a potential first-person and whether or not it was cut due to technical issues. Now that the game has finally been released in Japan, the definitive word has come down the pike: Yes, Virginia, there really is a first-person mode.

After completing the normal game for the first time, a Battle Mode opens up, offering of a choice of either the standard third-person perspective or the coveted first-person viewpoint. Three different characters -- either of the Redfield siblings and newcomer Steve Burnside -- are selectable; each has their own assortment of weapon.

Victory in the Battle Mode entails fighting your way through a linear series of rooms from the game. In order to progress to the room, the player must defeat all the monsters in the current room, which will unlock the exit. Ammo is unlimited; the only items you can collect are health sprays.

At the end of the Battle Mode, you must battle a boss from the game; who you fight depends on which character you select. Additional characters and weapons may be opened up afterwards if you completed the entire sequence quickly enough.

Screenshots and video of the Battle Mode can be found at videogames.com.
