Atlus' "Mystery RPG" revealed as Rhapsody

[01.20.00] » Anime-styled, musical RPG to arrive in U.S. in May 2000.

With only a day since Atlus teased fans with the promise of a forthcoming "Mystery RPG" on its webpage, the GIA has uncovered that the forthcoming role-playing title will be called "Rhapsody." The title was developed by Nippon Ichi and released in Japan as "Marl Ookoku Ningyo Hime: The Adventure of Puppet Princess." The game stars two female characters, Cornet and Chloro, and is set in the mystical kingdom of Marl. While a traditional RPG, Rhapsody is a very music-driven game with lush, storybook-style art. In the best tradition of Broadway musicals and Disney films, the characters will break into song from time to time, and a musical number advances the story. All of the game's many songs are in the process of being translated and sung in English.

Atlus hopes that Rhapsody will appeal to fans of Thousand Arms and Tail Concerto, and has slated the game for a May 2000 U.S. release. From what we've learned so far, Rhapsody sounds like a very unique and promising game. Much like Thousand Arms introduced video game dating elements in North America, Rhapsody promises to introduce musical elements into a role-playing environment. Full coverage will be forthcoming; until then, we hope these pieces of art and media will tide you over.
