F.A.Q. More extras

    Q. How does this whole save system work?

    A. Majora's Mask takes place across the 72-hour span between Link's arriving in Clock Town and the when the moon would finally come crashing down. You can't do everything in one span, so you learn the Song of Time to warp back to the beginning of the 72 hours. Doing so is the only way to save permanently.

There are also owl statues dotted throughout the world that can be used for "interrupt" saves. Interrupt saves record everything for that moment, but must be resumed the next time you play, and disappear when you do so. When you begin again from an interrupt save, it's as if you haven't saved at all since the last time you warped back in time.

    Q. What stuff do I lose when I warp back in time?

    A. You lose consumables, but not equipment - your bombs but not your bomb bag, your arrows but not your quiver or bow, etc. Money is also lost, but there is a bank in West Clock Town which saves your money and is available immediately. The contents of your bottles are lost, as are trading items. Masks are (of course) kept.

    Q. What reverts in the world when I warp back?

    A. Progress in dungeons is erased completely, as are the world after-effects of finishing a dungeon (like purifying the swamp). If you have beaten a dungeon, though, a warp will appear near the entrance that allows you to go directly back to the boss and trigger those effects again. People do not remember having spoken with you, though repeating their side quests will not get you multiple copies of items.

    Q. But I don't want to lose my dungeon progress!

    A. Then think like Link -- if you were about to go into a massive dungeon with only three days to finish, would you rush in immediately or would you warp back using your nifty Song of Time, then restock on supplies? If you start at the beginning of a three-day period and use the Inverted Song of Time, you shouldn't have any trouble.

    Q. I can't get the Scarecrow to teach me the song to slow down/speed up time!

    A. Unlike other "official" songs, this one isn't demonstrated by note. He doesn't teach them to you; he just tells you how they're played.

    Q. What's the best way to make money?

    A. Early in the game, kill the Dodongos north of Clock Town by simply throwing bombs at them for a profit of 50 rupees each, and the first and last day games at Honey and Darling's in East Clock Town are also fairly simple. Once you have the light arrows, you can kill the blue flaming skulls (Blue Bubbles) with one for a quick 50 rupees.

    Q. How do I get un-jinxed?

    A. A blue potion, the Song of Storms, or patience.

    Q. How do I get my items back from that @^#&!%$ crow?

    A. Takkuri is not only the item-stealing scourge of southwestern Termina Field, but a clever play on words for "peck" and "steal" in Japanese. Anything he takes from you ends up at the Curiosity Shop for varying amounts of money.

    Q. Why does the grass run away in North Clock Town / Milk Road / Mountain Village?

    A. Keaton.
